In April, our son, Kevin invited us to view the bulb farms of the Skagit Valley north of Seattle. Skagit Valley's mild maritime climate and particularly fertile soils create the perfect environment for growing tulips and daffodils. Most of these photos were taken on the Roozengarde Flowers and Bulb farm. They grow 450 acres of daffodils and 350 acres of tulips.
Bulbs are planted in October. Most years, daffodils bloom in March and tulips in April. The colder than normal, wetter than normal spring in 2022 delayed blooms by about two weeks. Bulbs are harvested, graded, and stored in late summer. Photos in the bottom four rows of this page are from the planted displays at the farm's headquarters where they host thousands of visitors in March and April.
